Climate of Uncertainty

Climate Of Uncertainty by Rumaisa Zubairi
Fifty years from now,
I don't want my grandchildren
To learn about rainforests in History,
Rather than geography
I don't want to tell them about the tears we shed
As trees toppled and fish floundered, Drenched in acid rain.
I don't want to explain why crops don't grow in the barren, sandy dirt.
I want them to see with their own keen eyes,
Attenborough's corals
And Darwin's sparrows.
I want their schools to yearn for eco flags
As mine does.
We live in a climate of uncertainty. Our world is evolving, changing.
And we are changing it.
But millions of voices, thousands of tweets and with our enduring yearning and resilience,
we will branch out, in droves, streaming support for our home, this uniquely exquisite planet.
We can prevent the Native American prophecy from fulfilment:
"When the last tree is cut down,
The last fish eaten
And the last stream poisoned,
You will realise that you cannot eat money"
