Start Up Grants for Deprived Areas Application Form 2019 -v2

Section Start Up Grants for Deprived Areas: Application Form

Welcome Page
Welcome to the Scout Association's Online Section Start-Up Grant Application form, this form can be used to apply for funding traditionally provided by the Development Grants Board.

If you are starting up a new Section or Group in a deprived area you may be able to apply for a grant of £1,000 from the Start-Up Grants Programme to assist with the costs.
If a new Section or Group is receiving a start-up grant from another programme, the Scout Grants Committee will reduce their HQ Start up Grant proportionately.

What is a ‘deprived area’?
The Association’s definition of a deprived area for this purpose is quite technical. The new Group or Section must meet in, and meet the needs of young people living in, an area in one of the lowest two quartiles of deprivation based on the rating given to the Lower Super Output Area (LSOA) by the Office of National Statistics (ONS). Information about Lower Super Output Areas and deprivation ratings may found on the Office of National Statistics websiteor by using the Department for Communities and Local Government's postcode checker - grants will be awarded to those postcodes that return results of 1-4 in the ‘Index of Multiple Deprivation Decile’ field.

You can find out if the new section you are creating qualifies by checking the postcode with the relevant Country-based statistics:

Please speak to the Scout Grants Committee staff team if you need further advice on this definition.
